What Happens in Therapy?

Our emphasis is on finding solutions that work for you, so that every client can become their own therapist by applying new skills and techniques to old patterns of thinking and behaving.

Initially, your therapist may help you complete a list of your problem (s) that you want to address. Alongside this, you will also develop realistic goals you would like to achieve, these are flexible and constantly under review.

Clients take an active part in therapy and this is what we think makes it so effective. You will plan with your therapist some “therapy tasks” or “homework” between sessions. This could be completing a thought diary or completing an experiment to test rules and assumptions that we start to question or suspect are maintaining your problem.

Therapy can be weekly but will always be tailored to your needs in collaboration with your therapists; sessions are typically 50 minutes.

You and your therapist would develop and agree your treatment plan collaboratively;

Your treatment plan will always be tailored to your lifestyle and needs, we are very happy to provide remote therapy by Skype, phone, e-mail and even SMS to ensure continuation of therapy.

We also provide support in different environments or locations, if this is part of your treatment goals. Our aim is to provide you with the tools you need to be able to manage your life successfully on an ongoing basis and we will do what is practically need to achieve this goal.

Therapy follow ups are offered to enable you to ensure the gains are being built upon and the relapse prevention plan is effective. After discharge we can offer “booster” session if you would like to refresh your knowledge and reinforce your tools and strategies when you are experiencing a particularly stressful time.
